OUR WORK IN THE COMMUNITY
We volunteer in the community primarily because it is needed more than ever. It also makes us feel better and live more fulfilled lives. Once you start volunteering with charities you understand first hand that there are many people with various backgrounds that have very few privileges and therefore need to be supported. There is plenty of inequality in this world we have created for ourselves, and therefore it is our mission to try to do what we can to support those that do not get equal chances.
Palau Socks was born from the work we do in our community, there are plenty of great charities out there that need more resources to continue doing their relentless work and we aim to help them through the sale of our top quality socks.
Charities we collaborate with
Below we have outlined some of the work our volunteers at Palau Socks carry out in our community.
OUR GOAL
We plan to sell our first batch of 1,800 pairs of Palau Socks, in order to make 4,500€ in profit, which will be donated in its entirety to BarcelonActua.
DONATION OF 300€ TO OPEN ARMS
Through the sale of our socks during the Christmas period of 2020 we were able to make a donation of 300€ to the charity OPEN ARMS that protect the lives of people abandoned in international waters fleeing armed conflicts, persecution and poverty.
DONATION OF 2,250€ TO BARCELONACTUA
Through the sale of our socks during the Christmas period of 2019 we were able to make a donation of 2,250€ to BarcelonActua that was used to partly fund BACSTATION GRACIA, a programme that provides accommodation and helps integrate 40 refugees into our community in Barcelona through mentors and courses.
SOCKS DONATED TO CARITAS MENORCA
We received a grant from the Fundació Guillem Cifre de Colonya, part of the ethical bank Caixa Colonya Pollença and with the funds we were able to donate 100 pairs of socks to the charity Caritas Menorca that helped them provide clothing for the people on their programmes as well as enabled them to raise money for their charity by selling socks within their community.
FOSTERING ABDOU
Two of the founders of Palau Socks (Maria & Dani) fostered Abdou in their house for three months. Abdou arrived in Spain on a small boat in extreme circumstances and after 6 months in Spain found himself without any accommodation or resources. Through a programme of Migra Studium we welcomed Abdou into our house for 3 months and made him feel part of our family. Read more about Abdou’s story here.
PREPARING FOOD FOR THE HOMELESS
We have volunteered preparing food for homeless people in Barcelona through various organisations such as BarcelonActua and Esperança. This involves helping prepare food and spending evenings walking the streets of Barcelona handing out food to any homeless people that we came across.
VOLUNTEER AS A FOOTBALL COACH
We believe sport is a vital tool that can help people integrate into society and is a basic need for everyone. Those that are in underprivileged situations sometimes do not get the opportunity to participate in any kind of sport. One of our volunteers mixes his passion with doing great work in the community by volunteering as a football coach for the charity BRAVAL as well as for the Sant Andreu Football Club.
